The Muscle Physiology and Biophysics Laboratory focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms of skeletal muscle contraction and force regulation. The general objective is to understand the steps underlying the mechanisms by which muscle molecules interact to cause muscle contraction under different situations.

The laboratory counts with advanced microscopy and optics, associated with new technologies based on micro and nanofabrication to measure minute muscle forces and displacements. The laboratory uses an array of experimental preparations, including single muscle cells, isolated myofibrils and sarcomeres, and myosin/actin filaments.
